This screencast gives you an overview of Default Folder X's features, showing its enhancements to your Open and Save dialogs, as well as ways to speed up your work in the Finder. What's new in version 5.4.6. There's a new Quick Start panel that's displayed the first time you run Default Folder X or if you choose 'Quick Start' from its menu in the menu bar. In its menus, Default Folder X now merges the contents of the /Applications and /System/Applications folders when running on Catalina.

Default Folder X attaches a toolbar to the right side of the Open and Save dialogs in any OS X-native application. The toolbar gives you fast access to various folders and commands. You just click on the buttons to go to your favorite and recently used folders, manage the folders and files shown in the list, and make changes to your settings. It also fixes a number of problems in Open and Save dialogs, “rebounding” to the last selected file, putting the path listing back in the top menu, and correcting bugs in scrolling column views.

To view the existing permissions of a file or directory in numeric form, use the stat(1) command: $ stat -c%a filename. Where the%a option specifies output in numeric form. Default Folder X 5 is $35, although owners of any previous version can pay just $15 for an upgrade. Those who purchased version 4 starting June 1, 2015, can obtain a free upgrade.
