For the longest time i have been looking for a faster storage/raid solution for my hobbies in photography and HD video. My existing raid was a NetGear NAS running RAID5 over fast ethernet - the fastest at the time but outgrown. SoftRAID allows you to create and manage disk arrays to increase performance and reliability. SoftRAID allows the user to create and manage RAID 4 and 5 volumes, RAID 1+0, and RAID 1 (Mirror) and RAID 0 (Stripe) volumes. SoftRAID also provides 'predictive disk failure', where users are alerted to potential disk failures even before they fail. Have been using SoftRAID Version 5(.x) since around 2014 with external (Thunderbolt) OWC RAID arrays. Perhaps the best thing I can say is that since then, except for replacing drives from time to time as needed, I’ve barely thought about SoftRAID, everything has just worked. MacOS FileVault encryption and OpenBSD encrypted softraid on a Macbook Air/Pro. OpenBSD works pretty well on at least the Mid-2011 Macbook Air (A1370, SandyBridge) and Mid-2013 Macbook Air (Haswell). The new KMS code in 5.4 brings up the MBA's eDP display in 1366x768 with backlight control.

System Requirements
